Cosmos Tattoo

Ok, so I fibbed a bit. I didn't upload this pic right away once I was home from the studio. This work was done by Jesse at Six Gill Custom Tattoos last Thursday, Jun 6 on my ankle and calf. He covered up an old tattoo I had done a long time ago. It isn't finished so no picking it apart! The remaining colour work and shading will be finished in July. I was at the studio for 5 1/2 hours and spent a solid 4 hours on the table getting this done. We actually got a lot further along than expected. Shading and colour was supposed to wait until July but I'm pretty good under the gun. I don't fidget, I don't moan and groan and I don't need breaks so we actually got much more completed.

So, a note about the art. When I consulted with Jesse I told him "I want a cover up, I want a Transformer and I'd like it to be Cosmos." We knocked our heads together, brainstormed, doodled and came up with the idea of Cosmos in space above a planet. I liked it so we went with it. On the way home the basic design layout idea bothered me as I was SURE I had seen something similar somewhere. It nagged at me. Once I got home I trolled DA and lo and behold, there is was. *The-Starhorse's fabulous painting Cosmos: Space Gets Lonely.

I immediately contacted her and told her what we came up with and where Jesse and I were at. She graciously allowed me to use her art as a reference so we borrowed large parts from her Cosmos (stance and body language which she does such an amazing job capturing, among other things) and this is what we came up with. I LOVE IT!!!!!! I can't thank Starhorse enough for letting me use her stuff. I feel that I owe her big time.

So, why Cosmos? He's fun, he's quirky, I identify with him and he's very unloved. Except by me, he's very loved around me. I him.

I'm 10 days further down the road, the healing is basically done and the peeling is about finished. It still looks freaking awesome and I still it. And now, I'm off to BotCon. I'm leaving tomorrow morning early to head out San Diego way. Many exciting pictures to come from that!
